Harmony Home Children's Advocacy Center
offers therapy services to the child victims of abuse, the non-offending parent or
caretaker and siblings of the victim. Therapy can be individual, group or family
counseling. Young children may participate in individual or group play therapy. Therapy
can be immediate, short-term such as crisis counseling, or long-term depending on the
needs of the individual. The therapists at Harmony Home are Master's Level Licensed
Professional Counselors with years of experience working with children and specialized
training in the area of child abuse.
Individual Therapy:
This is traditional "talk therapy" which is used with older children and adults
to explore the thoughts and emotions that are associated with sexual abuse. All therapy at
Harmony Home contains learning components that help teach the client about the dynamics of
sexual abuse.
Play Therapy:
Since play is the natural expression for children, a young child will participate in play
therapy at Harmony Home. Play allows the child to "say" what they are thinking
or feeling. When children can play out how they feel with a trained play therapist who
understands, they feel better because feelings have been released. Harmony Home has a
complete play therapy room filled with therapeutic toys and a new sand tray therapy room.
Group Therapy:
Groups of both adults and children are offered at Harmony Home. Adult groups consist of
Support or Parenting Groups and children's groups range from Children's Grief Groups, to
young Play Therapy groups to Teen's groups, depending upon the needs of the clients.
Groups normally meet once a week in the evenings.
Family Therapy:
Family Therapy is offered, when needed, to members of the same family who are working on
issues that can be best resolved by working together.
